Highlights of the IOPB Conference 2011

  1. XI IOPB Conference was held during 02 – 04 September 2010 at University Auditorium. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Campus, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India.
  2. XI IOPB Conference was joint venture of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India(BAMU); Botanical Survey of India(BSI); Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy, Calicut, India (IAAT) in collaboration with International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) and International Organization of Plant Biosystematists (IOPB).
  3. The organizers have provided the accommodation, foods, local transportation, pickup and drop facility to each and every participant. All inclusive minimum registration fees were the beauty of the conference.

Dhabe were present on the daisThe conference was inaugurated at 10:00 am on 02 September 2010 by the auspicious hands of Hon’ble Vice chancellor and Divisional Commissioner Mr. Bhaskar Mundhe. On this occasion Prof. Tod Stuessy, Secretary General, IAPT, Vienna , Austria; Prof. Karol Marhold, President, IOPB, Bratislava, Slovakia; Prof. Arun K. Pandey, President, IAAT, Delhi, India; and Dr. P. G. Diwakar, Joint Director, Botanical Survey of India, Pune, India, were the guest of honor and Prof. V. S. Kothekar, Dr. P. B. Papdiwal .
  5. The inaugural function run for 20 minutes and every guest had expressed his remarks on the occasion.
  6. The inaugural function was attended by more then 750 audience.
  7. The Auditorium of Dr. B.A.M.University was recently built-up, well equipped and very ideal for the conference. XI IOPB conference was the first ever event which was held in the said Auditorium.
  8. 30 minutes time was provided to invited speakers to deliver their lectures and 10 minutes time was given for oral presentation.
  9. The technical sessions were very excellent and Research Scholars and Post Graduate students gave the best response to every speaker.
  10. Participation of large number of ladies and Research Scholars was the unique feature of the conference.
  11. Participation of several senior taxonomists like 90 years old Prof. Rolla S. Rao was amazing.
  12. Many participants have shown their interest in joining IAAT, IAPT and IOPB and some of them have joined on the spot
  13. Excellent cultural programs were organized for 2 days in the evening for the entertainment of the participants. Every participant was mesmerized and enjoyed the same.
  14. Valedictory function was held at 15:00 hrs on 4th September 2010. Prof. A.G. Khan, Director, BCUD and Prof. Manvendra Kachole, Registrar of the University were the guest of honor. Prof. Tod Stuessy, Prof. Karol Marhold, Prof. Arun K. Pandey, Dr. P.G. Diwakar, Prof. V.S. Kothekar, Dr. P.B. Papdiwal and Dr. Arvind S. Dhabe were present on the dais. Every guest had appreciated the effoerts taken by organizers for the grand success of this conference. Prof. Manvendra Kachole had expressed that, “Organizing conference on such a super specialization and making it grand success is very difficult task and the organizers have succeeded in it.”
  15. The Organizing Secretary has decided to develop his department as one of the leading centre of Plant Biosystematics in collaboration and Co-operation of many Indian and Foreign Institutions.
  16. Prof. Oluwa Toyin Ogundipe from University of Lagos, Nigeria, Africa has got inspired to host the XIII IOPB meeting in 2010 in Nigeria. He has expressed his desire in valedictory function.
  17. Prof. P.K. Singh, Manipur University, Imphal, India, Ms. Eliska Zaveska, Prague, Czech Republic, Ms. Hye Ryun Na, South korea, Ms. Silvia Pihu, Estonia etc. have expressed their remarks in the Valedictory function.
  18. Dr. Arvind S. Dhabe, Organizing Secretary has managed every aspects along with his colleges, Non teaching staff, Research Scholars and M.Sc students.
  19. Research Scholars of Dr. Arvind S. Dhabe have taken painstaking efforts in the success of the conference they are Mr. Mustafa Dandu, Ms. Jennet Francis, Ms. Priyanka Ingle, Dr. M. A. Kare, Dr. Vikas Gambhire, Mr. Vinod Jogdand, Mr. Tukaram Gitte etc. Colleges of Dr. Dhabe, Dr. Milind Sardesai, Dr. Ravi Patil, Dr. Vikram Khillare, Dr. Narayan Pandure etc have contributed a lot in the success of the conference.
